Richard D. Krugman, MD, dean of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, has been selected to chair the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC).
Krugman will sit on the AAMC's executive committee, which serves on behalf of the AAMC executive council and acts on matters requiring immediate action. The AAMC is a nonprofit association of medical schools, teaching hospitals, and academic societies dedicated to improving health by improving the effectiveness of academic medicine.
Krugman has previously served as chair of the AAMC Council of Deans. He has served as dean of the University of Colorado School of Medicine since March 1, 1992, after serving as acting dean for almost 2 years. A professor of pediatrics, Krugman also served from 1981 to 1992 as director of the C. Henry Kempe National Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect, where he gained international prominence in the field of child abuse treatment and prevention.
A graduate of Princeton University, Krugman earned his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.
