Dr. Kenneth Baughman
Cardiologist Kenneth Baughman, MD, FACC, professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and Director of the Advanced Heart Disease Program at Brigham and Women's Hospital, died in November 2009 at the age of 63. He was struck by a car while jogging in Orlando, FL, where he was attending the 2009 American Heart Association Scientific Sessions.
A native of Kansas City, MO, Dr. Baughman earned his baccalaureate and medical degrees at the University of Missouri. He completed residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. After a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital, he joined the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine faculty where, prior to joining the Brigham in 2002, he served as director of the cardiology division for nearly a decade.
Dr. Baughman was internationally recognized for his work in the area of heart failure, in particular myocarditis and cardiomyopathy. He served as the chair and lead author of the American College of Cardiology COCATS 2 & 3 Training Statement Taskforce on Training in Clinical Cardiology. In 2008, he was awarded the Laennec Master Clinician Award to honor his outstanding contributions to teaching and patient care.
